BIRD POINT BORE TIDE TOUR

Bike along scenic Turnagain Arm to Bird Point.

The paved path runs between shore and glacier-covered mountains. You’re likely to see wildlife along the way, including beluga whales and other sea mammals in the inlet and big game on dry land, such as Dall sheep. Part of the trail uses the old road, which was rerouted, and part of the trail occupies an old rail bed. Along the trail are interpretive signs about the various interesting geologic features.

Dramatic views of the water and mountains lead to the Bird Point lookout. With panoramic views of Turnagain Arm, Bird Point is the perfect place to watch the Bore Tide. The bore tide is a huge wave advancing down Turnagain Arm in a wall of water… up to 10-feet high! It’s a dramatic show of nature’s power for sure. You will often see adventurers surfing and kayaking the wave! Bore tides come in after extreme minus low tides created by the full or new moon.
